AI Metadata Generator for Stock Images

Metadata Studio is a free, browser-based AI metadata generator for stock photographers and contributors. Upload your images and a vision model writes editable titles, descriptions and keyword lists — plus Shutterstock categories — ready to export as a CSV.

No account. No pricing. You bring your own AI provider key.

What the AI metadata generator produces

Every image gets the fields microstock marketplaces ask for. The model is instructed to describe what is visibly in the photo, and to avoid hype words and invented locations, so the output sounds like a caption rather than an advert.

Title

One descriptive title, cleaned of smart quotes and leading filler, then capped at the Adobe hard maximum of 70 characters.

Description

A short descriptive sentence, stripped of phrases like perfect for, then capped at 150 characters.

Keywords

An ordered list of 20 to 49 keywords, where 20 to 40 is the best-practice range. Singular and plural duplicates are merged and banned terms are removed. See the stock keyword generator.

Shutterstock categories

On the Shutterstock tab, a separate vision call classifies one or two categories from the official 26-name taxonomy, and they stay editable per item.

Output is normalised before you see it: word-boundary-safe trimming respects your length settings, and each item shows the provider and model that produced it. If a model rejects an image, that item retries once in text-only mode using the filename and is flagged text-only so you can swap in a vision model.

Supported marketplaces

Metadata Studio exports two CSV formats. Switch the marketplace with the topbar tabs and the export button follows the active tab. Each export is capped at 2,000 rows.

Export Columns Filename
Adobe Stock Filename, Title, Keywords, Category, Releases Adobe_Stock_CSV_<DD-MM-YYYY>.csv
Shutterstock Filename, Description, Keywords, Categories, Editorial, Mature Content, Illustration Shutterstock_CSV_<DD-MM-YYYY>.csv

A Shutterstock export requires at least one valid category per row. If a row has none, the export stops and names the offending files instead of producing a CSV the marketplace would reject. Read the dedicated guides for Adobe Stock metadata and Shutterstock metadata, or see the column references and templates.

Providers and BYOK privacy

You choose the model that writes your metadata. Metadata Studio supports Gemini (the default), OpenRouter and Groq. Add more than one key per provider and the queue rotates through them, cooling a key down after quota or transient errors before it is used again.

Keys are strictly bring-your-own. They live in your browser localStorage and are forwarded with each request through a stateless relay. They are never stored on the server and never written to logs, so there is no account to create and nothing for us to bill. The complete list of behaviors is on the features page.

Five-step quickstart

  1. Add a key. Click API Keys, pick a provider tab and add one or more keys. The Test button reports Good, Quota, Invalid or Model unavailable.
  2. Choose a model. Select a model per provider, or click Refresh models to pull the live list for your key. Vision-capable models are labelled.
  3. Upload images. Drop JPG, JPEG, PNG, WEBP or GIF files, up to 25 MB each, into the dropzone for validation and preview.
  4. Generate a batch. Set title length, description length and keyword count, then click Generate Batch. Items rotate through providers and keys top to bottom.
  5. Edit and export. Fix any field inline or regenerate a single image, then export the Adobe Stock or Shutterstock CSV.

The how it works guide walks through all six stages in detail, including concurrency, key cooldown and retries.
